Amazing Customer Reviews

Welcome to Cafe Under The Spire nestled under the spire in the heart of Gateshead.

This beautiful Grade ll listed church building built by John Dobson in 1840 has seen many people through the greatest celebrations of their lives. Today after 40 years of dereliction it is home to our lovely quirky cafe.

We’re independent and still keeping community spirit alive; we top up the tea pot, think water should be free and like to know how you want your eggs done. Our scones definitely pass the grandma test! We do an all day breakfast that will fill your boots and in the evening we’ll give you an excellent evening menu of delights to choose from.

We run regular music and comedy nights and the venue is available for hire.

We savour the richness of our menu, featuring mouthwatering burgers, rustic pizzas from our authentic pizza stove, and the pièce de résistance – exceptional Sunday Roast dinners that capture the essence of a comforting family feast.

Quirky, friendly & great food. Food is home-made, I’ve eaten here a few times, Sunday roast & the curry- all beautifully cooked and really yummy! A little pricy for alcoholic drinks, but a special venue and great food. Would definitely recommend. Dog friendly too!
